Physician Assistant – West Michigan SUD clinics

Deliver compassionate, recovery-focused care

Hourly Contingent (10-12 hours per week) Physician Assistant

At Samaritas, our Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services provide whole‑person care to individuals on their path to recovery. We are seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about serving vulnerable populations and advancing recovery‑focused, evidence‑based care within a mission‑driven organization, in consort with a participating physician in accordance with established guidelines, and for the delivery of physical health services for different departments. This new team member will participate with leadership for the medical oversight of the medical needs of Samaritas SUD, Foster Care, New Americans and Adoptions Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Medical Screening of clients (conducts physical exams)
2. Physical Assessments of clients (conducts physical exams)
3. Instructs and counsels clients by describing therapeutic regimens; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promotes wellness and health maintenance.
4. Evaluates and when appropriate prescribes Psych and MAT medications including but not limited to Buprenorphine and Vivitrol/Naltrexone under the direction of a waivered physician as a part of an interdisciplinary treatment approach to substance use.
5. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans
6. Monitor clients per policy & procedures
7. Documents patient care serves by accurately charting in client and department records)
8. Provide leadership and guidance for the policies and growth of physical health services.
9. Maintain appropriate and necessary communication with staff regarding responses to orders implemented and changes in client condition

Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

Physician Assistant Required Education and Licensure:

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan License as a Physician Assistant in good standing
  • Pass the PANCE (Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam)
  • Maintain active certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Valid State and Federal licenses to prescribe and administer MAT medication
  • Hold or acquire and maintain appropriate DEA wavered status to prescribe MAT
  • Hold or acquire and maintain appropriate training requirements applicable to MAT
  • Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team is preferredOR

Nurse Practitioner Required Education and Licensure:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
  • Active Michigan NP/DNP license
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
  • Valid State and Federal licenses to prescribe and administer MAT medication
  • Hold or acquire and maintain appropriate DEA wavered status to prescribe MAT
  • Hold or acquire and maintain appropriate training requirements applicable to MAT
  • Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team is preferredKnowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic forms.
  • Knowledge of various substances of abuse, the disease of addiction and signs and symptoms of detoxification.
  • Knowledge of process and procedures to complete medical evaluations for youth and adolescents.
  • Ability to use an Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Must be able to function in an independent team setting, be flexible in attitude, and desire to provide holistic care for clients.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral & written directions.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with client, employee and organization information.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals.
  • Ability to work constructively with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English. Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to prepare letters, summaries and reports using prescribed format and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions of a complex organization. Strong organizational skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods; hand-eye coordination; hand and finger dexterity; near visual acuity.

Expected hours: 8 – 12 per week
