Job Title: Physician Assistant (PA) Location: Good Samaritan Hospital – Brockton, MA
***This position is with University Orthopedics, though it will be located at the hospital.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: University Orthopedics is looking for a Hospital Orthopedic PA who will work at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA. The PA will act as the Orthopedic Service PA for the Hospital, delivering comprehensive care across our multispecialty orthopedic divisions. Additionally, the PA will be responsible for the evaluation, management, and nonoperative care of patients with musculoskeletal complaints and acute/chronic conditions, including the management of postoperative surgery patients. This role also includes performing various procedures in the office, inpatient, and emergency settings, as well as functioning as a surgical assistant.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain an independent schedule, evaluating patients both independently and under the direction of the supervising physician.
- Round on and manage postoperative surgery patients, ensuring proper care and recovery protocols are followed.
- See inpatient and emergency room orthopedic consults, providing timely assessments and treatment recommendations.
- Perform a variety of procedures, including aspirations, injections, reducing fractures and dislocations, and applying splints as needed.
- Assist in the operating room when necessary, supporting the surgical team to ensure smooth execution of procedures.
- Assist the physician in examining and diagnosing musculoskeletal/orthopedic problems.
- Write prescriptions and medical orders.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records of patient assessments, surgical procedures, and post-operative care.
- Participate in Division research and educational activities as needed.
- Collaborate with orthopedic surgery residents and division fellows in clinical and educational settings, when applicable.
- Perform additional duties as required to meet our clinical needs.
Requirements:
- Must have an active Massachusetts (MA) PA license or be eligible for licensure as a PA in MA.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as an orthopedic PA or a new PA graduate with orthopedic experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent communication abilities to interact effectively with staff, patients, and physicians in a professional, knowledgeable, and courteous manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient records.
- Ability to travel to all UOI sites as required.
- Competency in managing postoperative care, inpatient consults, and emergency room evaluations effectively.
Work Schedule:
- The position requires 4, 10-hour shifts, typically a combination of 7:00am – 5:00pm and 9:00am – 7:00pm.
- Weeknight and weekend General Orthopedic call is required and is paid in addition to the base salary.
