Full Job Description
Responsibilities in the cardiac surgery OR which include vein and artery harvesting, first and second assist, etc. as well as responsibilities for organ procurement activities of working with the surgical team to perform organ procurements and to enhance the efforts of the institution in its primary goal of procuring organs, and tissues for transplantation and research. Under the direction, supervision and responsibility of a physician, and in accordance with established policies, evaluates patient’s health status through diagnostic procedures and tests. Provides medical care (pre-, intra-, and post-operative) of patients, in the operating suite (OR), according to established protocols.
Note: The salary range listed does not include call time, call back, or a sign-on bonus.
Education:
Successful completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program.
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, psychology, pharmacology, clinical medicine, radiology, microbiology, and pathology.
Comprehensive knowledge of clinical and/or surgical procedures, patient care protocols, and medical testing procedures.
Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in the specialty area of cardiac surgery OR.
- Analytical skills to evaluate patient health status and implement appropriate care plans.
- Ability to take initiative and problem-solve effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills to interview, teach, and counsel patients, as well as instruct healthcare personnel on procedures and treatments.
Work Experience:
Preferred: Ten or more years of experience in cardiac surgery OR, including vein and artery harvesting, and first and second assisting.
Required Licensure/Certifications:
- Licensed by the MD Board of Physicians.
- Board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Current BLS/ACLS certification required.
