Position: Advanced Practice Provider (ACNP/PA-C) – Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit

Location: The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD

Position Overview:

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (ACNP or PA-C) to join our team in providing overnight coverage for approximately 20-25 adult cardiac surgery patients in the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU). This 32-bed unit specializes in adult cardiovascular surgical care, including coronary artery bypass, valve repairs and replacements, aortic dissections, heart and lung transplants, and mechanical circulatory support devices (Heartmate and Heartware). The unit offers three levels of care: floor, telemetry, and intermediate.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive care for CVPCU inpatients.
  • Manage cardiac surgery admissions from the ICU and ED.
  • Oversee outside hospital transfers, in-hospital consults, and triage outpatient calls.
  • Collaborate with Cardiac Surgery Fellows and Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit intensivists for support.

Shifts:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • 12-hour night shifts with some weekends and holidays.
  • Permanent night shift incentive rate available.

Qualifications:

  • For ACNP: Completion of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program and national certification.
  • For PA-C: Completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant Program and board certification or certification-eligible by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Licensed by the MD Board of Physicians (for PA-C) or relevant state board (for ACNP).
  • CDS (prescription) and DEA (narcotics) licensure required.
  • BLS Health Care Provider CPR certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted).
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant inpatient cardiac surgery experience.
  • PECOS enrollment required.
