Job Description
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) has a full time position available for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Acute Care Emergency Surgery team. We seek a highly proficient, self-driven individual to participate in the care of patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate must be detail oriented and must be able to work independently and possess strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
General Description:
- Performing assessments, obtaining history and physical examinations, establishing preliminary diagnosis, ordering or performing diagnostic tests
- Providing treatment, follow-up, consultation, and health education for patients.
- Developing a plan of care. Reviewing care plan with patient and responding to all questions or concerns.
- Managing illness or problems related to the Emergency General surgery patient within the scope of practice
- Facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient and families
- Ensure the coordination of quality, cost effective, safe patient care
- Participates in the development and advancement of evidenced-based best practices and supports formal and informal educational programs for other members of the health care team.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current state licensure as an Acute Care or Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required.
- Prior Critical Care experience is preferred
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required.
- DEA, CDS and NPI required.
