Full Job Description

With the collaboration and guidance of the physicians, the Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) or Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) assists in assessing, planning, diagnosing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating care provided to patients within the legal scope established by their respective Louisiana licensing boards.

The practice is guided by:

  • Louisiana State Board of Nursing (for Nurse Practitioners)
  • Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners (for Physician Assistants)
  • Collaborative Practice Agreements
  • Current national standards and clinical protocols

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or physician assistant program
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies
  • Current licensure:
  • CRNP: Louisiana State Board of Nursing (RN and APRN)
  • PA-C: Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA, etc.)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Completion of assigned EKG Courses within 12 months
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting
  • Effective communication skills

Suggested:

  • Advanced credentials and/or certification in any field of medicine or nursing

Specific Duties

Direct Patient Care:

  • Perform health histories, physical exams, daily progress notes, discharge and transfer summaries
  • Order/perform/interpret diagnostics; analyze data; formulate diagnoses
  • Initiate pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies
  • Evaluate and revise care plans
  • Educate patients and families
  • Make daily rounds and assist in patient care coordination
  • Assist physicians with procedures and emergencies
  • Manage patients in outpatient clinics and infusion centers
  • Accept call status in collaboration with physicians
  • Evaluate and implement care in emergency settings

Documentation / Records / Billing:

  • Document clinical findings and care plans using SOAP format
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records
  • Submit necessary information for billing and compliance

Communication & Care Coordination:

  • Monitor and communicate diagnostic results
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members
  • Liaise among patients, families, and healthcare providers
  • Explain procedures and obtain informed consent
  • Serve as a leader and resource in clinical settings
  • Triage calls and provide health information
  • Participate in committees, task forces, and projects

Professional Duties:

  • Maintain clinical competency through continuing education
  • Participate in and apply clinical research
  • Mentor students and colleagues; precept new staff
  • Maintain CPR and ACLS proficiency
  • Represent the organization in community education

General Guidelines:

  • Adhere to standards of care and clinical guidelines
  • Employ ethical decision-making and patient advocacy
  • Accept responsibility for actions and outcomes
  • Consult with collaborating physicians as required
  • Suggest and help implement new patient care programs

Other Responsibilities:

  • Manage call schedules
  • Engage in Wellness Council and committee activities
  • Supervise assigned personnel
  • Perform other duties aligned with the mission of CIS

Education

Required

  • High School or better
