Position:

Physician Assistant (PA)

About BROC:

At the Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic our goal is to provide a seamless continuum of health care services to maximize patients’ outcomes and convenience. We offer an organized and coordinated continuum to provide better and timelier feedback between the patient, physician, and ancillary services provider. Our main campus is located on Bluebonnet, but we have various clinics and therapies across the state of Louisiana as well as the BROC foundation that supports local schools and athletic programs by providing services throughout various communities.

Summary:

The position is located in the medical clinics and reports directly to the supervising Physician and Director of Operations for all matters, including job duties, performance evaluations, approval of leave, and other assignments as deemed necessary for the benefit of the Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic (BROC). The nature of the duties is to provide patient care in surgery and clinic settings in support of supervising physician. The PA treats patients in a caring, warm and professional manner.

Duties:

· Functions as a First Assist for surgical procedures. Ensures the highest level of patient care and safety. Assists hospital or surgical facility staff with equipment, instruments, and supplies as appropriate.

· Assists the supervising physician with clinic visits which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Obtains patient history
  • Performs physical examination on the patient
  • Orders imaging and lab studies as appropriate
  • Dictates visit notes
  • Prescribes medication, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices as necessary
  • Formulates a diagnosis; and, Formulates a plan of care.
· Clinic duties include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Schedules surgical procedures
  • Performs pre-operative and post-operative care
  • Changes dressings
  • Prescribes medication, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices as necessary
  • Dictates visit notes
  • Applies/removes casts
  • Performs injections/aspirations/procedures
· Functions independently, in the clinic setting, in the absence of the supervising physician. These functions are at the discretion of the supervising physician and BROC policy and are limited to patient visits and services for non-complicated rechecks, pre-operative, post-operative, injections, procedures, routine follow-up, cast change, and dressing change appointments.

· Hospital duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists the supervising physician with performing the initial evaluation and management of patients in the Emergency Department
  • Assists the supervising physician with performing inpatient daily rounds
  • Assists the supervising physician with performing inpatient consults
  • Assist the supervising physician with performing inpatient chart documentation, signatures, updates, discharge summaries, etc.
· Completes surgical procedure billing paperwork and submits to the appropriate personnel.

· Returns phone calls to patients and their family members, hospital staff, home health care agencies, physical therapists, vendors, etc.

· Performs on-call duties timely and professionally to include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Fields phone calls after hours and on weekends
  • Rounds for all clinic physicians’ patients
  • Assists in after hours emergency and inpatient consults
  • Assists in after hours surgical procedures
· Understands and follows all OSHA and HIPAA rules at all times.

· Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of BROC.

Qualifications:

· Physician Assistant degree from accredited college required.

· Current and valid state license.

· Obtain and maintain Board Certification through NCCPA.

· Prior experience as a Physician Assistant is desired.

· Good communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

· Ability to learn computerized medical office systems.

· Must maintain credentialing requirements at hospitals and surgical facilities as requested by supervising physician.

· Ability to pass a drug screening

· Ability to learn computerized medical office work
