The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Physician Assistant for our Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division. The Physician Assistant will perform direct patient care services to reproductive endocrinology and in vitro fertilization patients under the supervision of Reproductive Endocrinology and IVF faculty. The PA functions as a member of a team of health care providers including resident physicians, staff physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses to provide services to the population of patients seen in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics. The PA functions under the supervision and in collaboration, with an assigned primary staff physician. The PA and physician meet to review complicated cases requiring physician consultation. In addition, the PA consults with the clinic staff physicians on an “as needed” basis.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides consultation, comprehensive treatment planning and a broad range of services for patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies and for gynecology, including oncology and reproductive endocrinology. Our comprehensive medial, surgical, and nursing services span the full spectrum of all obstetric and gynecologic patients at University of Health Care. In addition to patient care, the department is noted for its strong educational programs for sonography students, medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. Basic and clinical research in reproductive medicine is an important departmental activity.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs health assessments for outpatient reproductive endocrinology and IVF patients.
- Performs health assessments for inpatient reproductive endocrinology and IVF patients.
- Performs routine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures approved by supervising physicians using independent judgment and consulting with supervising physicians when appropriate.
- Participates in teaching of reproductive endocrinology and IVF patient care.
- Performs triaging for reproductive endocrinology and IVF patients.
- Provides supervision of day-to-day functioning of clinic.
- Maintains appropriate licensure/certification.
- Performs special projects or assignments as requested
- Exhibits behavior expected of a professional health care employee.
Required Qualifications:
- Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and certification by the NCCPA.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous clinical experience with gynecology, reproductive endocrinology or IVF patients.
- Ability to work independently in decision-making, management issues, and problem solving and the ability to function independently yet work in a team setting.
