Full Job Description

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team by providing medical and psychological services to children and young adults in the Center for Disabilities and Development. In accordance with scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, regulations, institutional policies and practice agreements, the position will independently conduct comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history, physical assessments, establish medical and psychiatric diagnoses, order and evaluates developmental, behavioral, and diagnostic studies, and develop treatment plans. This position will be required to work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. This position may be eligible for a transition and relocation allowance.

Duties to include:

  • Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients and manages patient’s overall care, initiates appropriate referrals and consultations, and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical/procedural, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Participates in departmental educational conferences and clinical care meetings.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) and other records for compliance, billing, and other regulatory standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested/assigned.

About the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics:

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) provides compassionate and state-of-the-art clinical care for children with a variety of challenges and difficulties, including developmental (cognitive, language, social, behavioral, motor) delays, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, hearing/vision impairments, ADHD, learning disorders (such as dyslexia), feeding disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, chronic pain syndromes, and cerebral palsy. The DBP Division also provides leadership for the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Autism Center, which is a collaborative program of the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Psychiatry.

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner:

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master’s degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required
  • Current certification as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

  • Current ARNP license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Federal DEA license.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry and or developmental pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in mental health.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP)

or

Physician Assistant:

Required Qualifications

  • Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Iowa.
  • Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Federal DEA license.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry and or developmental pediatrics.
  • Knowledge and experience in mental health.
  • Knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
