Full Job Description
Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center is seeking a full-time APP to join our specialty orthopedic surgical practice. The APP is responsible for initial evaluation and management for patients referred to IHTSC on an elective, urgent, or emergent basis. The APP will review all cases with the supervising physician and provide initial treatment, including manipulative fracture care, minor wound debridement and closure, other indicated minor procedures, and coordination of care. The APP will have skills in prioritizing, organizing and completing professional responsibilities efficiently. Excellent communication skills required with patients, families, referring physicians, and other staff members.
This position is full-time, Monday-Friday. 80% clinic (Westfield & Harcourt Rd, Indianapolis), 20% OR (ASC & St. Vincent). Must be willing to travel to Lafayette twice a week. No call & no weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations, interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests. Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis. Formulate a treatment plan for orthopedic conditions. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. This could include medication prescription, injection, minor procedure, or coordinating surgical intervention. Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals.
- Order, collect and perform appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, such as routine laboratory tests, EMG, electrocardiogram and radiologic examinations including arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI and bone scan studies.
- Performing minor outpatient surgical procedures such as wound closure and management, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, and fracture care.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as aspirations and injections of joints, bursars and cysts. Perform closed reductions of fractures and dislocations. Apply braces, casts, splints and other orthopedic appliances.
- Provide emotional, moral and educational support to patient and family members. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Preoperative and general patient education.
- Patient problem calls: preop and postop questions, medication inquiries and refills, other concerns patient may have.
- Dictate detailed notes for patient visit for smooth continuity of care.
- Maintain appropriate billing records for billable services provided with appropriate coding.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Indiana license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Minimum of 2 years orthopedic experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and efficiently manage all responsibilities
