Full Job Description

The Physician Assistant is a member of the Local MD Urgent Care delivery team. The Staff PA is responsible for setting the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff PA has responsibility, authority, and accountability for providing care through consultation and collaboration with a physician/Medical Director. The Staff PA manages and provides management of health problems, coordination of healthcare including administering physical exams, diagnosing, and treating illness/injuries and prescribing medications for patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, professional communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Staff PA encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The Staff PA establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, Local MD Urgent Care, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The PA promotes excellence in care and provides expertise in clinical practice, education, consultant services, and clinical research.

Essential Job Functions & Competencies

Patient Screening & Analysis

  • Performs initial patient screening, patient history, and physical examinations.

Diagnoses & Treatment

  • Diagnoses or treats acute and chronic Healthcare problems such as illnesses,

infections, or injuries; prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as

legally authorized.

Professional Care Service Recommendations

  • Recommends designated on-site and off-site professional Healthcare services

and medical care to patients, within the scope of specialty training.

Patient Education

  • Educates patients/family members/guardians about self-management of

acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual

circumstances.

Patient Records

  • Prepares specific, accurate and timely medical records using EMR

technology per Local MD standards. Leverages EMR for documentation,

medication, diagnostic orders, and referrals.

Education & Training

  • Provides medical direction, education, and training to staff who assist or

support Provider in the delivery of services.

Organization Specific Expectations

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with all Local Urgent Care staff.

  • Maintains knowledge of the Local MD Urgent Care standards, policies, and procedures, including Local MD Urgent Care’s Policy and Procedure handbooks.
  • Compliance with all regulatory agencies and laws including HIPAA, accuracy in EMR documentation and coding, patient rights, and all clinical and administrative Local MD processes.
  • Strict Adherence to all Local MD charting standards/practices as directed by the CEO and COO.
  • Maintain best practices as it relates to all aspects of Urgent Care, Lab, administrative and other Local MD processes as instructed by COO and CEO.
  • Attendance at Provider and other staff meetings, as mandated.
  • Maintains working knowledge of office procedures and in the use of all relevant office and medical equipment, computers, and systems.
  • Maintains strict patient and employee confidentiality in compliance with Local MD and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Willingness to travel between clinic locations within a 25-mile radius from home clinic
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification, Licensure or Registry Requirements:

Physician Assistant Licensure: Required

Controlled Substance Licensure; Required

Drug Enforcement Agency Registration: Required

Nationally Recognized Certification from NCCPA: Required

Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Preferred

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Preferred

DOT Certification (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Certified Medical Examiner) Required

Graduated from an accredited PA program Required
