Orthopedic Spine Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Full-Time)

The OVMG Orthopedic Spine Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner examines, diagnoses, provides non-operative and pre, intra, and post-operative care to patients presenting with diseases/disorders and injuries to the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine including the supporting structures and vascular supply and to the musculoskeletal system under the direction of the supervising physician.

RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN INCLUDE:

  • Reviews patient file/record, including allergies, problems, history and physical, medications, and immunization status.
  • Completes physical examination and records information about patient’s medical history and physical status.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
  • Prescribes course of treatment for patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and performs required surgery.
  • Conducts and supervises direct patient care throughout the continuum.
  • Plans and executes disease prevention and health promotion programs.
  • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition. Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnoses condition of patient.
  • Administers, prescribes, educates, and advises the patient on medical issues and treatments as indicated by their agreed upon plan of care.
  • Determines and prescribes medication, dosage and frequency based upon the patient’s condition and allergies according to best practice guidelines. Completes medication reconciliation throughout the continuum of care.
  • Discusses any possible side effects and interactions to medication with the patient.
  • Promotes health by advising patients about diet, hygiene, lifestyle changes, and methods for prevention of disease.
  • Refers patients to appropriate medical resource or specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient’s well-being.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of medical care and monitors progress of patients.
  • Documents in the medical record the patient’s visit including medical history, physical exam, diagnoses, procedures completed, plan of care/action, etc.
  • Provides outpatient consultation and hospital consultation services.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Responds and oversees care provided during a medical emergency until the patient is transferred to the next level of care/emergency medical service providers.
  • Assist with surgical procedures based upon approved Delineation of Privileges.
  • Follow medical staff bylaws and policies and procedures.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in high volume/high stress environment, which demonstrates ability to multitask.
  • Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program. Licensed to practice medicine in Ohio; OR Current RN License, FNP certificate, and furnishing number.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current certification Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work under pressure
