Summary

Provide life-changing care to patients and their families through minimally invasive hip and knee replacement alongside an early-career orthopedic surgeon with a bustling practice. Serve as the surgeon’s right hand in the operating room assisting in the full range of hip and knee replacement from minimally invasive partial replacement to complex revision surgery. Coordinate and deliver an amazing patient experience in the preoperative and postoperative period both alongside your surgeon and in independent clinics. In the clinical setting, see patients on your own and alongside your surgeon as part of a growing and cohesive team. Responsibilities

Hospital/Surgical Activities

1. Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room

2. Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed. 3. Closes surgical wounds and applies surgical dressings 4. Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied health. 5. Dictates H&P’s, consultations, operative reports, and discharge summaries.

6. Other activities as assigned by physician.

Clinic Activities 1. Perform joint aspirations/injections. 2. Interprets x-rays.

3. Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician. 4. Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision. Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans

5. Facilitate the non-operative, preoperative and post-operative care of patients

6. Field patient phone calls on a rotating schedule

Performs other duties within the guidelines per department and policy within normal scope and characteristics of the sponsoring/attending physician’s practice and current clinical privileges.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazards; position requires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.); requires the ability to bend and stoop without difficulty; involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens; requires verbal/written communication ability in the English language; involves exposure to weather elements and travel to all assoc. Hospitals and/or HOA facilities.

Requirements:

Educational Requirements / Qualifications and Experience

1. Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. 2. Active Certification from NCCPA. 3. Active Licensure as Physician’s Assistant in the State of Illinois. 4. ACLS desirable; current CPR required. 5. History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity. 6. Able to speak/write English language fluently 7. Excellent “people” skills
