Role Description
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Pyschiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) / Physician Assistant (PA) provides treatment for patients with psychiatric illnesses along the lifespan in an outpatient setting. Treatment includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the patient care among a multi-disciplinary team.
The PNP / PA is responsible for providing treatment for patients at Skyway Behavioral Health in the partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient program. Treatment includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the patient care among a multi-disciplinary team. He/she/they are responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of the SBH treatment model, fully participate in admission and clinical meetings including DBT team meetings and team rounds and clinical staffing. The PNP / PA will carry a clinical caseload and participate in all aspects of clinical care for their patients including initial psychiatric evaluations, psychiatric follow up appointments, team rounds, and some peer-to-peer insurance reviews when needed. Skyway’s emphasis is on taking care of our staff so that they can take better care of our patients and so that we maintain a cohesive, collaborative, “work family” with low turnover. Skyway aims to offer an individualized, multidisciplinary treatment team approach wherein the staff psychiatrist will work with providers within many disciplines including but not limited to therapy, nursing, dietary, utilization review, and other administrative professionals.
Essential Functions/Core Responsibilities
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations and participates in the clinical care and treatment planning process for SBH patients including admissions and clinical team meetings
- Provides confirmation of psychiatric diagnosis and prescribes medical and psychiatric treatment; supervises and directs the psychiatric aspects of a patient’s treatment
- Participates in the implementation of SBH’s quality assurance plan; assuring that psychiatric care meets quality assurance standards
- Occasionally provides medical triage and treatment authorizations via telephone outside of regular business hours; prescribe medications
- Acts as a member of a multi-disciplinary patient care team
- Confers with clinical staff and patients and their families regarding diagnosis and treatment; makes referrals to specialists as appropriate
- Provides clinical assessments and crisis intervention for psychiatric emergencies
- Assures that patient medical records are accurate, meet legal and medical requirements, and are completed in a timely manner
- Maintains relationships with community physicians and other health care professionals who are important referral sources for SBH
- Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships with outside physicians and care providers and all internal colleagues.
- Completes documentation and progress notes within a timely manner that ensures optimization of treatment
- Collaborates with the leadership team in creating and sustaining a culture of compassion and healing.
- Promotes the Skyway culture by demonstrating genuine concern and compassion for all staff such that they may do the same for one another and our communities, patients, and customers.
- Supports the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives. Develops, implements, and improves processes to ensure that established policies, goals, and objectives are achieved.
- Maintains good standing in regards to license, board status and credentialing
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- Completion from an accredited MSN or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program with a Specialty in Psychiatric-Mental Health Care Professionals
- Completion of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification
- Must be free of any investigations or sanctions by local and/or federal regulatory agencies
- Three to five years’ clinical experience preferred
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities
- Outstanding presentation skills for marketing and training opportunities
- Proficient with computers, web-based programs, and an electronic medical record system
- Ability to work independently as needed yet recognize the need for support and demonstrate the willingness to ask for help.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond with confidence, and resolve during challenging or chaotic situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills
