Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Inpatient Leukemia service.
Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $10,000
Eligible for Relocation Assistance
The Advanced Practice Provider will be responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management and will manage a caseload of patients by exercising autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The APP will provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, as well as complete administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The APP has acquired the knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice.
The Inpatient Leukemia service is an APP-staffed service with the support of a Hematology/Oncology Fellow and Hematology/Oncology Attending. This is a day shift position from 7am to 7:30pm. After an orientation period of approximately 3 months, the APP will work autonomously and collaboratively with the rest of the APP team, Leukemia attending, Leukemia fellow, and pharmacist to manage Leukemia service inpatients. The team rounds in the morning and the APPs present patients with their assessments and plans. APPs then carry out the plan for the day, calling consults, placing orders, admitting expected and unexpected admits, and performing procedures. This candidate will be trained in the management of acute leukemia, chronic leukemia, as well as oncologic emergencies (eg neutropenic fever, tumor lysis syndrome, differentiation syndrome, DIC, HLH).
Advanced Practice Provider Essential Job Functions
  • Taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing illness
  • Pre and post-operative patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests
  • Ability to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making, provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services
Nurse Practitioner Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Master’s of Science in Nursing
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or AANP
  • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers
  • At least 1 year of inpatient experience preferred
  • Previous oncology experience preferred
  • Acute Care preferred
Physician Assistant Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program
  • Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration
  • At least 1 year of inpatient experience preferred
  • Previous oncology experience preferred

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
