Orthopedic Surgery and Sports is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join our fast growing practice. We’ve been voted “The Best Of” in orthopedics in North Idaho 4 years in a row! Our group is comprised of eight orthopedic surgeons, and supported by seven APPs. Our group’s specialties include Sports Medicine, Shoulder Surgery, Hand Surgery, Foot/Ankle and Adult reconstruction. Currently we are the largest private orthopedic practice in North Idaho with locations in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls. This role will provide surgical first assist support in Total Joint, Hip and Knee replacements and cover clinic days . This position is Monday thru Friday with no weekends or call coverage. Essential Functions:

  • Provide efficient high quality care to patients.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and help ease pain and suffering.
  • Ability to demonstrate emotional stability while seeing people in various states of pain and trauma.
  • Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; patient and family education; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care team
  • Requires independent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence in time management, and prioritization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Idaho State Board of Medical Practice.
  • Must be eligible for DEA registration
  • Retain Idaho State Licensure
  • 2-5 years of surgical first assist experience is required
  • Orthopedic surgery experience is preferred
  • Efficient in the use of standard office equipment, data entry, typing, 10-key skills, and alpha/numerical filing.

Essential Functions (Physical):

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
  • Majority of the shift is spent standing.
  • Frequent reaching, stooping and twisting when filing, accessing records and answering telephone
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Read a variety of printed and handwritten materials, computerized reports, manuals, and correspondence.
  • Communicates with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on the telephone.

Wok Environment:

  • Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine operates in a professional office environment. Days and hours of work are conducted Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, based on business needs, may be subject to change.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine has multiple locations and travel may be required.
