Full Job Description

Pathways Center’s outpatient treatment program provides services that include, but are not limited to, individual, group, and family education and counseling. This program offers comprehensive, coordinated, and defined services that vary in level of intensity. Outpatient services address a variety of needs such as situational stressors, family relations, interpersonal relationships, mental health issues, life span issues, psychiatric illnesses, addictions, and the needs of victims of abuse and/or trauma. The outpatient treatment program works jointly with the persons served to maximize their functioning and manage the symptoms of their current situation. The program is designed to enhance the strengths of the individual through recognized treatment interventions.
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician, for multiple locations within the organization. This position will work in the following outpatient clinics on a rotating basis: Newnan, GA; Franklin, GA; and Carrollton, GA.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Obtains a patient history and completes a physical and mental status examination under the clinical supervision of a physician within established timeframes
  • Instructs and counsels clients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance
  • Makes tentative diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of clients/patients
  • Prescribes therapy and/or medication with physician approval
  • Compiles and records client/patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, examinations, etc. in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
  • Administers and/or orders diagnostic and laboratory tests as needed
  • Coordinates timely referral of patients to outside/external specialty services as needed
  • Ensures that patient’s human rights are safeguarded in accordance with legal statues and established guidelines
  • Monitors patient’s responses to treatment and recommends modification of treatment plans as patient’s condition changes
  • Documents significant altercations in patient’s condition, treatment, and privileges and keeps physician informed
  • Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team in formulating timely, cost-effective individualized treatment plans
  • Actively participates in the Quality improvement program toward maintaining established standards; Actively participates in medical peer review
Master’s degree in nursing area of assignment from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in a related area AND a current license to practice as APRN in Georgia in the specialty area. Psychiatric specialty area requires a minimum of Two years mental health experience. Medical specialty area requires a minimum of Four years mental health experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited college or university AND Four years of general medicine experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND completion of a physician assistant training program of at least 24 months certified by the Accreditation Review Commission of PA, ARC-PA AND certification to practice as a Physician Assistant by the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners (or eligibility to obtain within One year) AND Two years of experience in a related area.
