Join us as a Contract ED Physician Assistant at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center located in Augusta, GA.
Duties may include but are not limited to:

Employment of the principles of emergency care for life/limb threats, resuscitation and stabilization, triage, diagnosis, and disposition.

Initial evaluation, emergent treatment and management including but not limited to:
-
Minor wound care.
-
Minor procedures (including but limited to incision and drainage, simple laceration repair, nail trephination, local infiltration anesthesia, electro-coagulation, nasal cautery, gastric lavage, bladder catheterization, and more as required).

Musculoskeletal trauma.
-
Gastrointestinal illness.
-
Burns.
-
Respiratory illness.
-
Dermatological illness.
-
ENT.
-
Urological problems.
-
Cardiovascular disorders.
-
Issues caused by antigens, organisms, and other foreign substances.

Major procedures shall be performed in the facility emergency department when safe and appropriate to do so.

Provide appropriate stabilization prior to, or in concert with, transfer to a medical facility able to provide the level of care required.

Provide consultation with instructions to referring physicians.

Initiate appropriate social work referrals for all identified homeless veterans and for patients who do not have primary care providers, but who appear regularly in the ED.

Directly supervise application of orthopedic devices such as splints and braces to stabilize orthopedic injuries.

Appropriately prescribe medications as needed, following established medication policies and procedures.

Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all ED patients.

Provide test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers & Patients.

Attend staff meetings as required by Facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
Schedule: 24/7 ED coverage required. Shifts available: 9A-7P/4P-2A, rotating shifts with other ED staff. No call required during off hours.
Period of Performance: 6-month base 4/17/2025-10/17/2025 w/ 4 renewal options.
Qualifications:

Education. Minimum Master’s degree required.

Licensure and certification. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. BLS and ACLS required. DEA and NPI required.

Experience. Minimum 3 years ED experience w/ direct patient care preferred.

English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Subject to background/security investigation.

Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination.

Complete an online onboarding process.

May be required to complete a probationary period.

Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
