Full Job Description
SUMMARY:
Under the Dermatologist’s supervision, provides and manages direct and indirect Dermatologic care for all patients in the Practice. Takes histories, examines, determines appropriate diagnostics and tests, performs procedures, diagnoses, and treats diseases of hair, nails, skin and mucus membranes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs evaluation and management including surgical procedures on assigned patients; as well as direct and indirect follow up to ensure patients are treated with the highest standards of care.
- Conducts Superficial Radiation Therapy treatment sessions independently, administering doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards as directed by supervising physician.
- Orders, performs, confirms receipt of results and interprets diagnostic tests in order to care for the patient.
- Notifies supervising physician regarding any unusual, unexpected, and suspicious events or problems requiring direct physician involvement.
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to treat medical conditions.
- Assists in providing pre-op and post-op care informing physician of pertinent findings.
- Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care services or providers as appropriate.
- Writes progress notes on patients’ charts reflecting patient encounter, side effects of medications, options, risks, benefits of treatment plan or procedure.
- Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of medical assistants and support staff as required, i.e., patient messages, refill requests, general messages and emergencies.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards as well as HIPAA.
- Completes education directed assignments for patients, providers, and outside activities.
- Organizes outside sponsors to coordinate educational, promotional and community activities.
- Sells medical and skin care products with knowledge of use, side effects, and regimens to best suit skin care types.
- Develops training strategies, trains and oversees medical assistants to ensure better quality patient care.
- Reviews medical records for any purpose.
- Maintains adequate knowledge to appropriately utilize office protocols including computer programs and protocols for other posts throughout the office that affect medical and financial outcomes.
- Ensures strict confidentiality of all records.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Complies with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Complies with all policies and procedures of American Institute of Dermatology, P.A.
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
State of Florida Physician Assistant’s License; four academic years of pre-professional and professional study, including graduation from a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant; certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; previous work experience generally required.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in Dermatology.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in Dermatology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to orient and train selected staff when necessary.
- Organizing resources and establishing a list of priorities related to a patient care environment.
- Ability to research and present medical topics.
- Ability to perform public speaking engagements.
OTHER ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Regular attendance, ability to work overtime and to work outside of regular office hours.
- Able to reliably work assigned schedule, arriving on time for work.
