JOB DESCRIPTION
Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 15 years, is currently looking for a Full Time Physician Assistant. This position is to support the practice of Dr. Matthew Butler at HSS Florida, West Palm Beach. Dr. Matthew Butler is a board-certified hand and upper extremity surgeon at HSS Florida. He has over a decade of experience with extensive expertise and skill in treating a wide range of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder in patients of all ages. Dr. Butler believes in taking a patient-centered approach to helping others reach their goals and function at their highest possible level, using arthroscopic and minimally invasive treatments when possible. He prides himself on staying up to date on new and innovative surgical techniques.
The PA will serve as a primary assistant to the doctor. Duties will include clinical evaluation of patients in the office, counseling patients and their families regarding proposed surgical procedures as well as addressing pre-and post-operative patient questions and concerns, and surgical first assist role in the operating room. The PA will interact closely with office staff, other PAs, patients and families to be an integral part of providing a high level of clinical care and service.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited PA program, current FL PA-C License, BLS/ACLS certification and NCCPA board certification are required.
Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a PA, preferably in an orthopedic setting or alternate surgical subspecialty. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight. Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS Indoor area with frequent exposure. Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians. HAZARDS OSHA OSHA Category 1.Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials. POSITION & UNIT ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Upholds HSS Professional/Clinical Standards – General (Communication).Initiates and maintains open, direct and effective documented and verbal communication with colleagues/medical staff and all members of the department as applicable. Responds to emails, and communications/ messages as soon as possible in a professional manner with compassion and understanding.
EDUCATION REQUIRED Bachelor’s. Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant Training Program. EDUCATION PREFERRED Master’s, Physician Assistant. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE PREFERRED Current NCCPA Certificate – 100 hours of continuing medical education must be logged every 2 years. Recertification Examination must be taken every 6-10 years and passed successfully.
