For information regarding the USF Health, please visit our website at http://health.usf.edu/index.html POSITION SUMMARY: The APRN will act in accordance with Florida Statutes for the Nurse Practitioners Act. The care and management of critically ill infants requiring hospitalization in a level IV neonatal intensive care unit. This NICU Nurse Practitioner will cover night and/or day shifts as assigned including weekend coverage. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is based at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in Tampa, FL. TGH is a 1,018-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. It is a private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in west central Florida, serving a dozen counties with a population over 4 million. In addition to being a level one trauma center, it has a level 3 NICU. The 82-bed Jennifer Leigh Muma NICU is a designated Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center designated by the State of Florida to deliver the highest level of medical care to premature and sick infants, and to women with high-risk pregnancies. USF/TGH Neonatology also participates in the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative, a statewide initiative to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in Florida. RESPONSIBILITIES: CLINICAL: Ongoing evaluation and management of neonates and infants requiring care in the neonatal intensive care unit, participation in multidisciplinary rounds, and coordination of care with ancillary staff and family. Attendance at high-risk deliveries and immediate stabilization of critically ill neonates under the supervision of the attending Neonatologist. Documentation of all orders, procedures, and progress notes on the patient’s medical record. Performs procedures necessary for the care of neonates and infants in the intensive care unit including endotracheal intubation, umbilical line placement, PICC line placement, lumbar punctures, and peripheral arterial lines. TEACHING: Supervision of pediatric residents and participation in the teaching of pediatric residents and medical students. Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a state university. Responsible for teaching, service, and related activities. May be responsible for research and/or academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees. OTHER: Participation in Quality Assurance / Improvement Other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree in Nursing: ARNP training; Florida License. BLS/AED certification is required and must be maintained. Any equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience Requirements: 2-5 years; at least 2 years of experience evaluating pediatric patients (2year experience assessing neonates preferred)
Minimum 1 year nursing experience in a physician’s office or clinic experience in an ambulatory health care facility preferred. BLS/AED certification is required and must be maintained. ACLS or PALS
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor
This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.
