Job Description:

ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSE AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be clinically competent while delivering care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. APRNs and PAs will effectively interact with patients, significant others and other health team members while maintaining all standards of professional nursing.

Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrate a competent knowledgebase of Neurological diseases and treatment plans, as demonstrated by appropriate questions and comprehensive research toward improvement of patient care.

2. Use the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s care.

3. Assess the patient: collect and document the patient’s current health status and medical history. Assess the patient for impression and plan. Make accurate and ongoing assessment of patient’s status and respond appropriately.

4. Plan/implement: set priorities for nursing action in a logical sequence according to patient’s needs and formulate a plan of care by the appropriate selection of Nurse Practice Standards. The plan of care is initiated at patient’s initial visit and includes: patient/significant other education and follow-up care.

5. Evaluate: perform ongoing assessment and revise plan of care based on new data and patient’s condition.

6. Document accurate and ongoing assessment of patient status: Document patient care, including nursing intervention, patient response to care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals. Documentation includes evidence of appropriate patient/significant other teaching, and the understanding of these instructions is noted in the medical record.

7. Communicate with the physician regarding patient’s needs.

8. Collaborate with doctor to determine patient diagnosis and order tests, referrals and services needed.

9. Assist doctor in the operating room as needed.

10. Collaborate with other health team members to ensure the patient’s wellbeing.

11. Teach patient/significant other appropriate health information in a timely manner and share written informational material as evidenced by documentation in the medical record.

12. Perform direct patient care, using established procedures, policies and standards in the clinic and the hospital.

13. Demonstrate ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures in accordance with orders and policy and procedure (done within a timely manner).

14. Demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to policy, procedure and department specific competencies.

15. Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.

16. Provide personal patient care to ensure comfort and well-being to the patient, acknowledging physiological and psychological needs.

17. Demonstrate accurate and timely documentation according to form guidelines.

18. Maintain a clean, neat and safe environment for patient and staff according to policy and procedure.

19. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information.

20. Adhere to all policies and procedures both facility wide and unit specific and review all new policies as directed, completing an attestation form which will be placed in employee’s human resource file.

21. Adhere to all regulatory agency requirements including those designated by HIPAA, OSHA and AHCA.

22. Adhere to all federal, state and local laws, statutes and directives pertinent to the practice of medicine and physician offices.

23. Remain conscious in regard to personal hygiene and comply with specific departmental dress code regulations.

24. Comply with all safety regulations.

25. Attend all staff meetings and annual facility staff training.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Employee’s work schedule will be based on operational needs of the clinic and shift times may vary dependent upon clinic needs. Full time employees will work a 40 hour work week.

Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
