Collier Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center was established in 1999 and serves as the premier orthopedic and sports medicine center in Southwest Florida. We are expanding and adding a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to our team!
Dr. Guerra and Dr. Wilhoit are the Team Physicians for Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and two high schools. The practice specializes in sports medicine/arthroscopic surgery, shoulder and knee, and joint replacements. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of orthopedic experience. The position is Monday – Friday with no weekends or nights and no ER call. Salary based on experience. Please feel free to reply with questions about the position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs complete history and physical exams on new and pre-operative patients
- Manages Dr. Guerra’s patients post-operatively accommodating patients who need to be seen
- Joint injections under ultrasound
- Image reviews: MRIs and X-rays
- Works closely with Dr. Guerra for patient symptom discussions, medication issues, medical/surgical treatment planning
- Collaborates with physical therapists to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes
- Interprets necessary pre-operative testing results, clearances, reports, referral responses, and labs and develops appropriate plan of care
- Surgical first assisting as needed
- Provides accurate and timely documentation findings including physical exam results, medical history and treatment plan recommendations in the electronic health record (EMR)
Qualifications:
- Current state license as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Florida
- Minimum of two years of orthopedic experience a plus
- Joint injection experience
- Strong clinical skills, critical thinking and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills
- Is comfortable with pre- and post-operative patient management in a surgical setting
- Has knowledge of pre-operative contraindicated medications and supplements
- Possesses general pharmaceutical knowledge of common medications ordered for pre- and post-operative patient management: antibiotic therapy, pain management, post-op nausea, etc.
