Physician Assistant – Pain Management Clinic
Job SummaryThe Physician Assistant (PA) in a Pain Management Clinic provides advanced clinical support to the physician by performing comprehensive patient evaluations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, assisting with interventional procedures, and managing ongoing treatment plans for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. The PA works collaboratively with the physician and clinical team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care, accurate documentation, and efficient clinical flow across all locations. This role requires strong clinical judgment, professionalism, and adherence to all regulatory and safety standards.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Conduct detailed patient histories and physical examinations focused on pain-related conditions.
- Formulate differential diagnoses and develop evidence-based treatment plans under physician supervision.
- Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests such as MRI, CT, X-rays, EMGs, and laboratory studies.
- Administer or assist with interventional pain procedures (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections, nerve blocks) as permitted by licensure.
- Prescribe medications within scope of practice, including controlled substances following all federal and state regulations.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, make follow-up adjustments, and provide ongoing patient education.
Procedural Support
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for interventional procedures.
- Assist the physician during in-office procedures, ensuring sterile technique and safety protocols.
- Perform wound care, suture removal, dressing changes, and other minor clinical procedures.
- Document procedure notes, consents, and postoperative instructions accurately and promptly.
Patient Education & Communication
- Educate patients on diagnoses, medications, therapeutic exercises, lifestyle modifications, and interventional treatment options.
- Provide counseling regarding opioid safety, medication compliance, and risk-mitigation strategies.
- Maintain compassionate, clear, and professional communication with patients and families.
Collaboration & Workflow Management
- Work closely with physicians, medical assistants, radiology vendors, and administrative staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Review charts, update problem lists, and close encounters in a timely manner.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care coordination including referrals, imaging follow-ups, and specialist communication.
- Maintain compliance with clinic policies, OSHA standards, DEA requirements, and state practice laws.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete thorough, legally compliant documentation in the EMR, including:
- H&P, progress notes, procedure notes, medication reconciliations
- Controlled substance monitoring (PDMP checks, opioid agreements, risk assessments)
- Ensure coding accuracy for E/M visits and procedures to support proper billing and reimbursement.
- Protect patient confidentiality and uphold HIPAA regulations at all times.
Professional Expectations
- Demonstrate consistent professionalism, punctuality, and accountability at all clinic locations.
- Maintain required certifications (PA-C, BLS/ACLS, CME credits).
- Engage in ongoing education related to pain management best practices and new treatment modalities.
- Participate in quality-improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and clinic performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current Florida State PA license; NCCPA certification.
- Prior experience in pain management but not necessary, orthopedics, neurology, or primary care preferred.
- Strong knowledge of musculoskeletal and neurologic assessments.
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Experience with EMR systems and procedure-based clinical environments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
