Position Summary:
The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive surgical support and patient care under the supervision of a licensed surgeon. They assist in surgical procedures, manage pre- and post-operative care, and ensure optimal patient outcomes in a clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities:
– Conduct detailed patient histories and physical examinations pre-operatively.
– Assist surgeons during various surgical procedures, including suturing, tissue handling, and operative management.
– Perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions as directed.
– Prepare patients for surgery by explaining procedures, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring pre-operative readiness.
– Monitor and manage patients’ post-operative recovery, including wound care and pain management.
– Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, recovery processes, and post-discharge care.
– Document medical histories, operative reports, and patient progress notes accurately in electronic medical records.
– Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
– Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control, and healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
– Prior experience in a surgical or perioperative setting is preferred.
– Plastic and/or reconstructive surgical experience a plus
– Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
– Valid state licensure and certification (e.g., NCCPA certification).
– Strong interpersonal, communication, and clinical skills.
– Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements:
– Ability to stand for extended periods.
– Manual dexterity required for surgical assistance.
– Good vision and communication skills.
Work Environment:
– Clinical setting, including operating rooms, pre-op, and post-op units.
– May require occasional on-call or extended hours depending on the surgical schedule.
