GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Physician Assistant (PA) performs a wide range of clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities may vary by day, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
The PA examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles detailed medical histories. The PA orders and interprets diagnostic studies, including X-rays, MRIs, and laboratory tests. The PA performs therapeutic and clinical procedures such as injections, casting, suturing, wound care, and infection management. The PA documents progress notes and contributes to continuity of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES / WORK REQUIREMENTS
Surgery
-
Serve as First Assist in the operating room at hospitals and surgical centers
-
Ensure operating room readiness (presence in OR by 7:00 a.m.)

Be present for the start of all assigned surgical cases
-
Remain available throughout procedures to assist as needed
-
Conduct follow-up calls to postoperative patients within 24 hours
Office

Maintain office hours with physician and independently
-
Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until the end of the physician’s scheduled day
-
See physician’s patients in collaboration with the supervising physician
-
Conduct patient interviews, order X-rays, provide education, administer injections, and apply/remove casts and braces
-
Evaluate patients with acute conditions and review cases with the physician

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
-
Orthopedic experience required
Education
-
Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program resulting in a PA certificate
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
-
Active and unrestricted Connecticut Physician Assistant license
-
Conditional employment may be granted to recent graduates between program completion and licensure examination
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, reports, and legal documents

Ability to respond effectively to inquiries from patients, regulatory agencies, and staff
-
Ability to communicate information clearly in written and verbal formats
Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Ability to interpret technical instructions in written, mathematical, or diagram form
