The Chief Physician Assistant (PA) of Subspecialty PAs in surgery is responsible for the overall operations of the subspecialty PAs that provide 24/7 coverage in the Stamford Health system. The Chief PA provides liaison functions between PAs, administration, and is the point person for all surgeons. This is an opportunity for a PA looking to maintain their clinical functions, such as covering cases in the OR, while providing direct supervision to a team of eleven physician assistants, including, performance management, scheduling, and time keeping. Schedule : On-Site 5 Days Per Week. Approximately 7AM to 3PM or 8AM to 4PM. Primarily Monday through Friday with occasional night and weekend. When requested, must be willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate departmental needs and workload.
Subspecialities : Urology, Neurology, ENT, OMFS
CLINICAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs the duties of the clinical functions of a Physician Assistant in surgery.
- Takes medical histories and performs physical examinations, utilizing appropriate diagnostic techniques
- Performs selected technical, surgical, and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a physician.
- Order and interpret lab data, radiological examinations, and diagnostic tests.
- Records daily results of lab work, x-rays, EKG tests or special testing into patient chart.
- Provides clinical management of the surgery patient in the acute care setting.
- Arrange for consults at the direction of the attending physician.
- Acts as first assistant in the operating room.
- Prepares admission pre-op and post-op orders and conducts pre and post-op checks.
- Completes patient rounds on assigned units.
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as a liaison and representative of the PAs to division and departmental leadership.
- Develops and administers hospital policies and procedures for PA’s and assures compliance with practice standards for the safe delivery of care.
- Completes performance evaluations of all direct reports.
- Trains PAs on clinical procedures and patient care and schedules in-services with team for new PA training and/or updates as appropriate.
- Responsible for scheduling and assignment of PAs to maintain appropriate staffing and coverage. The Chief PA will cover gaps in schedule as needed if no other options available.
- Five-years of surgical experience is required as a PA.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA approved training program is required.
- Connecticut state licensure is required.
- Continuous certification by the National Commission on the Certification of PAs ( NCCPA) is required.
- Must have leadership experience with demonstrated competency of clinical skills and techniques.
