Position Details:
The Hospital of Central Connecticut is hiring a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join their general surgery team, which has been in service for over forty years. The successful candidate will have no operative responsibility and will be involved with evaluating patients in the Emergency Department, rounding on service patients, bedside procedures, and surgical consults, working alongside resident physicians. The well-established program provides constant opportunity for education through lectures and individual teaching as well as CME credits.

Setting: Inpatient, general surgery
Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8-hour days.

About The Hospital of Central Connecticut:
The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital with campuses in New Britain and Southington. While Advance Practice Practitioners and residents work collaboratively, each runs a separate surgical service. The focus of the resident (Red Team) service is on community elective and emergency surgery. With Level III Trauma designation, the referral base of the THOCC has expanded, and so has patient volume and acuity.

Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners Role Scope:
Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.
In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.
Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Licensure: Unrestricted State of Connecticut Medical License (or eligible)
- Training: Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP certified)
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience: 3+ years working with surgical patients is preferred. This should not dissuade new graduates to apply as we understand work ethic supersedes experience in certain situations.
