Now Hiring – Physician Assistant

Location: Hartford, CT – On-site (1000 Asylum Ave Ste 3201E)

Job Summary:

The PA-C is responsible for providing competent medical care in accordance with the professional scope of practice and current state of Connecticut regulatory statutes. The PA-C participates in the management of patient care throughout the patients visit including admission, pre-procedure physical and evaluation and post procedure monitoring. Collaborates with the attending interventional radiologist to manage the daily workflow of the interventional radiology patient schedule. Requires high organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task in a hospital setting, transitioning job responsibility while maintaining composure and high efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reports to work as scheduled and on time per policy with predictable regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.
  • Takes all reasonable steps to maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and other information, ensuring compliance with HIPAA mandates.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal communications in dealing with all others. Recognizes and respects differences in the workplace. Demonstrates openness, sensitivity and commitment to coworkers, patients, family members, and any other visitors to RAH or hospital locations.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE, PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Perform interventional radiology procedures; the Interventional Radiology Supervising Physician must provide direct supervision and be in the building for IR PA to begin procedure and must authorize each procedure before it begins:

  • Assist with all interventional radiology procedures as directed by IR.
  • Injection, exchange, and removal of drainage catheters to include GU and GI drains.
  • Imaging guided thoracentesis and paracentesis.
  • Perform venography and assist with arteriography.
  • PICC placement and repositioning with ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance.
  • Placement, repositioning, and removal of tunneled and non-tunneled catheters including implanted ports.
  • Perform lumbar puncture and myelography under imaging guidance.
  • Perform biopsy under imaging guidance to include thyroid and lymph node.
  • Perform arthrocentesis and joint injections under imaging guidance.
  • Placement of small-bore chest tubes under imaging guidance.
  • Actively participate in the management of patient care throughout the patient’s visit including admission, completing H&P and pre-procedure assessments specific to IR procedures. Performs sedation assessment, relevant to institutional departmental policies, including ASA scoring, airway classification, ECOG scoring, medication management and medical referrals, communication to supervising physician related to unusual patient events.
  • Order and interpret pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Assess pre-procedure medical management issues (including peri-procedural, hyper/hypotension, fluids/electrolytes imbalances, critical values) and unmanaged diabetes (insulin pumps, metformin management, hyper/hypoglycemia).
  • Issue appropriate prescriptions and administer medication.
  • Respond to emergencies within radiology department.
  • Comply strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards.

Requirements:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Connecticut Physician Assistant License
  • State of Connecticut Controlled Substance
  • Drug Enforcement Agency License
  • State of Connecticut Fluoroscopy Certificate
  • NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) Certification
  • Successful credentialing by insurance payers and medical staff offices
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
  • BS/MA in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science or Medical Science
