Job Summary
The Denver Health Adult Urgent Care Clinic is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team of 5 physicians and 20 APP providers. Our clinicians practice in the following settings: the Adult Urgent Care Center on the Denver Health main campus, the Downtown Urgent Care in Downtown, Denver, and our telemedicine Virtual Urgent Care. At least one year of experience in an urgent care or emergency care setting is preferred. Under general supervision the APP will work with clinical staff/physicians to provide urgent/acute healthcare to patients. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. As appropriate for clinical setting provides treatment for illnesses, injury, emergencies, follow up, and screening and testing. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment.
The Urgent Care Clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Care site that sees and manages approximately 40,000 patients annually. A wide array of consultant services and diagnostic testing are available on-site, including access to bedside ultrasound, in-clinic X-ray and CT, US and MRI services. Hours of the Clinic are 7am-7pm, 7 days/week. The Downtown Urgent Care is a state of the art facility that sees approximately 5,000 patients annually and its hours are 7am-7pm, Mon-Thursday. The Virtual Urgent Care sees approximately 18,000 patients annually and its hours are 7am-7pm, 7 days/week. All told, these sites take care of more than 60,000 patients annually. Must function well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including listening to others and considering novel and unconventional approaches to solving problems. Be highly self-motivated, organized, and capable of using his/her time efficiently in a fluid variable clinic structure where standard work and process are established or modified in a dynamic clinical setting. Willing to cross train and perform other clinic roles to help the team when staffing needs dictate. Benefits of practicing for Denver Health include:

Essential Functions:
  • Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (20%)
  • Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (20%)
  • Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (15%)
  • Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. (10%)
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (5%)
  • May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. (10%)
  • Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. (10%)
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. (10%)
Education:
  • Master’s Degree Required
Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred.
Licenses:
  • CSRC-Controlled Substance Regulation Certification – DEA – Drug Enforcement Agency Required or awaiing DEA required at time of hire.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) – AHA – American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.
  • Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
  • Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
  • Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
  • Computer skills required.
