Job Summary The Division of Cardiology at Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for an advanced care provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our cardiology division as a PRN/Intermittent provider. The ideal candidate will have outpatient cardiology experience in any cardiology discipline. This position can offer anywhere between 1-3 days per week in this intermittent role. Under general supervision of a physician, performs professional medical work in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of Cardiology patients according to statutory limitations, depending on their degree (PA, NP). Works with clinical staff, fellows, and attending physicians to provide Cardiology care in multiple domains (Inpatient, outpatient, procedural). Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs administrative procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. May perform administrative support functions as required. Essential Functions:
  • Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (35%)
  • Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (20%)
  • Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (10%)
  • Device interrogation for ICDs and pacemakers. (10%)
  • Provides for pre and post op/procedural care. (10%)
  • Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. (10%)
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (5%)
Education:
  • Master’s Degree (NP or PA) Required
Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years experience Required
Licenses
  • NP or PA License in the state of Colorado required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) – AHA – American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.
  • Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
  • Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
  • A strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring adherence to critical care pathways and protocols and ensures an environment of safe quality care.
  • Computer skills required.
