Job Description

Job Title: Physician Assistant (Temp)

Reports To: Assistant Medical Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Function: Clinical

Classification: Regular, Full-Time, 40 hours/week

Schedule: 4 days/week, Off Tuesdays, 10 hour days

Location: Onsite

SUMMARY: Provides general medical, preventive, acute and chronic care, and treatment to patients in medical facility such as clinic, health center, or public health agency, under direction of Physician, by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this job description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. 1. Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician.

2. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.

3. Discuss cases with Physician and other health care professionals as needed to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.

4. Prescribe or recommend drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.

5. Refer patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.

6. Institute referral and coordinate patient services to promote continuous comprehensive care at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

7. Incorporate into the plan of care provisions for the preventive measure to improve health status based upon individual, cultural, psychological, social and environmental factors.

8. Provide information for the patient, enabling patient to make realistic decisions in solving health and related problems and ensure joint responsibility with the professional health team members for the outcome of the patients care.

9. Advise and counsel patients about normal developmental and maturational stages, and normal life crisis.

10. Identify and intervene in problems related to these areas.

11. Collect and record data according to the problem oriented medical record system, assuring timely and accurate completion of data entry into patient records.

12. Provide support and counseling to patients with chronic disease regarding psycho-social, environmental, and physical well-being.

13. Institute emergency medical measures in life threatening situations.

14. Assess and intervene in common developmental and behavioral problems of individuals in the family.

15. Counsel men and women on available contraceptive methods and facilitate making the indicated birth control measures available.

16. Monitor changes of patients with chronic disease.

17. Prescribe clinic drugs to the patient in accordance with the formulary and policies of the health manpower pilot project 124 or under the supervision of a prescribing physician. Physician orders may be given to the PA orally or in writing in accordance with a written standardized procedure developed under these guidelines.

18. Attend and participate in organized meetings as requested.

19. Transmit a valid prescription to a pharmacist, by telephone, in person or by written prescription, as so authorized by the HMPP 124 or in accordance with written standardized procedures.

20.Participate in the education of fellow staff members in the form of lunch and learn presentations as assigned by Assistant Medical Director.

21. Interacts with community members via participation in local tribal health screening events.

22.Position may be re-assigned as part of activation of EOP.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Travel is not required for this position.

Driving may be required for local tribal health screening events

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

At least 1-year of relevant experience post graduate program.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of professional medical theory, practice, and general care to deliver and evaluate patient care.

Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.

Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional medical training to provide ongoing care.

Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings.

Skills in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining quality assurance.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.

Electronic health records software (NextGen or Epic preferred).

Utilization of Paycom, Paycom Learning, Ethics Point, and PolicyTech systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS

Current and unrestricted PA license.

Current and unrestricted DEA license.

Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.

Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test to include marijuana.

Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.

Must pass criminal background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoor clinical setting. May occasionally provide external care.
