Full Job Description
- Four (4) shifts per four (4) week schedule
- Shifts will be on both days and nights. On-call shifts are optional and do not count towards the minimum requirement.
- Weekend commitment: Must be available and willing to work at least 2 weekend shifts per schedule.
- Holiday Commitment: Must be available and willing to work at least 1 out of the 6 major holidays (Thanksgiving and day after, Christmas and Christmas Eve, New Years and New Years Eve).
- Night Commitment: Must be available and willing to work at least 8 night shifts in a 6 month period.
UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Office in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mission Bay, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). This process may take up to 90 days and must be completed prior to the start date in any APP position. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $128.67 – $128.67 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- A minimum of one (1) year of recent experience working in Adult Critical Care patient care as a Physician Assistant
- Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program.
- A minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an inpatient Physician Assistant in an academic medical center.
- Experience with quality improvement and/or research.
- Author of publication in peer reviewed journal
- Experience as faculty or instructor in graduate advanced practice provider program
License/Certification
- California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
- Hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
- Completed a APA recognized graduate Master’s Degree program as a Physician Assistant
- Active Physician Assistant licensure in State of California
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address Certified as a Physician’s Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification.
- Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS certification.
- Neurocritical Care Society Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certification upon hire.
- Must maintain Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certification
- Submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
