Full Job Description
Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Head and Neck Surgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those AHPs providing services both in the inpatient and ambulatory environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”. In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and unlikely to include all SPs on the list. This position may provide inpatient (possible outpatient) care in approved age groups at UCSF Health licensed settings. The AHP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $87.66 – $124.28 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 year of recent experience working as a Physician Assistant in an adult medical surgical setting or related experience
- Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
- Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations and in varying schedules as outlined.
Sr. Physician Assistant
- Five (5) or more years of recent experience as a Physician Assistant in an adult medical surgical or ambulatory setting
- Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
- Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching

Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of related surgical experience
- Two (2) or more years of oncology experience
- Facial Plastics/reconstruction experience preferred
- Head & Neck Surgical Oncology experience preferred
- Experience working in an Academic Medical Center
License/Certification
- Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
- California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
- Current national board certification (NCCPA) by first day of work and maintain.
- Active and transferable DEA license with schedules 2-5 to a California address and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
- Current AHA BLS.
- Current AHA ACLS.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
