Come join our dynamic, highly skilled CT Surgery inpatient APP team. The cardiothoracic surgery service provides advanced surgical treatments, including coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic and mitral valve replacement, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and heart transplantation. Our APPs, together with the CT Surgery Fellows and Physicians, operate at the top of their scope to deliver high-quality, efficient healthcare to our patients. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) position has clinical, procedural, administrative and educational responsibilities in the care of adult patients requiring cardiac and thoracic surgery. Under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Heart & Vascular Director of Advanced Practice Nursing, the Cardiothoracic Surgery PA will have a critical role in the inpatient setting, with both team member and individual duties. These responsibilities will include preoperative and postoperative patient examination and assessment, diagnosis and planning; treatment implementation, coordination and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $78.62 – $124.28 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year related adult cardiothoracic/cardiovascular patient care experience as a physician assistant and/or minimum 1 years of adult ICU experience as a physician assistant in a Cardiothoracic ICU/Coronary Care Unit/Cardiovascular ICU setting
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
Sr. Physician Assistant:
- Specific training and experience related to cardiothoracic/cardiovascular patient care as a physician assistant, minimum of 5 years of which 3 are in the most recent years
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum one (1) year of OR First Assist and/or EVH experience at a high volume center
- Endoscopic radial artery harvest experience at a high volume center
License/Certification
- Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA)
- California driver’s license (DL) if required for position
- Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
- Active DEA with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
- Complete an AAPA recognized program as a physician assistant
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day
- Current AHA BLS
- Current AHA ACLS
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
