Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Job Description

Position Overview: Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for psychiatric services for Compassion Pathway Behavioral Health (CPBH) patients. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant ensures high-quality psychiatric care, participates in patient assessments, and collaborates with the clinical team to develop and update treatment plans.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and/or Psychiatric Physician’s Assistant performs all duties allowed by the appropriate professional accrediting body to provide direct patient care through the use of standardized procedures and protocols as approved by the Executive Director – Programs at Compassion Pathway Behavioral Health LLC.; follows departmental policies and procedures; exercises initiative, originality and judgment in applying established principles and practices to new and unusual problems; serves as a resource for staff and participates in educational sessions for staff. Direct supervision is provided by the CEO.

Supervision Received:

  • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Supervision Exercised:

  • Provides clinical guidance to the Administrators and Nurses.
  • Does not provide administrative supervision to employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Psychiatric evaluation and follow up of CPBH patients, medication management and other related psychiatric physician services, on days mutually agreed upon and as required working within a multi-disciplinary team approach
  • Provide psychiatric evaluations and follow-ups of CPBH LLC patients, including laboratory evaluation, medication management and other related psychiatric services, on weekends and any other days mutually agreed upon and as required, working within a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • May participate in organized clinical staff activities or consultations with clients’ conservators, family members, or other authorized representatives.
  • Other clinically necessary and required psychiatric physician services as requested by CPBH facilities

· Conduct monthly individual therapy and rehabilitation with each patient.

· Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients.

· Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.

· Prescribe therapy or medication with supervising physician/psychiatrist approval.

· Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examinations using EHR software.

· Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illnesses independently or as part of a healthcare team.

  • Maintain complete and detailed records of patients’ health care plans and prognoses.
  • Collaborate with Treatment Team to develop treatment plans, based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.
  • Analyze and interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Diagnose or treat complex, unstable, comorbid, episodic, or emergency conditions in collaboration with other health care providers as necessary.
  • Serves as a resource for staff and provides consultation.
  • Provides assistance with crisis intervention as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining assigned productivity levels each month;
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as biology, psychology, or pre-medicine.
  • Graduate Degree: Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program or Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

Experience:

  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of two years of full-time work experience providing services directly to clients with mental health illnesses in a community program.

License/Certification Required:

  • Board Certification: Board certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) or Psychiatric Certification
  • State Medical License: California State Physician Assistant License, issued by Physician Assistant Board under the Medical Board of California by date of hire Or Valid California Nurse Practitioner License and California Registered Nurse License
  • DEA License: Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license at the time of hire and maintained throughout career at CPBH.
  • BLS Certification
  • NPI Number – Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) or obtain an NPI, prior to official hire date and meet current Medicare and Medical requirements for billing.

Pay: $100.00 – $150.00 per hour
