Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Surgical Spine Practice at Haider Spine Center. This position involves a combination of clinical and surgical duties, providing comprehensive care to patients with a wide range of spinal conditions. The ideal candidate will work closely with our spine surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to manage both acute and chronic conditions, assist in surgical procedures, and provide exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and Treat Acute and Chronic Spine Conditions:
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with acute spinal pain, injuries, and chronic spine conditions, such as degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, and spinal stenosis.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment plans and interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Documenting using an EMR system
  • Pre-op, Post-op, and Follow-up Evaluations:
  • Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations to assess the patient’s suitability for surgery, including reviewing medical history, performing physical exams, and ordering necessary tests.
  • Assist in post-operative care, including managing surgical wounds, pain control, and ensuring the patient is progressing with recovery.
  • Perform regular follow-up evaluations to monitor long-term recovery and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Prescribe Medications:
  • Prescribe appropriate medications to manage pain, inflammation, and other conditions related to spine health.
  • Provide clear instructions for post-surgical medication regimens, including opioid-sparing alternatives when appropriate.
  • Order and Interpret Diagnostic Studies/Labs:
  • Order and review imaging studies (e.g., X-rays, MRI, CT scans) to assist in diagnosing spine conditions and planning treatment.
  • Interpret diagnostic results and communicate findings to patients and the healthcare team.
  • Surgical First Assist:
  • Assist the spine surgeon in various surgical procedures, including spinal fusion, discectomy, and decompression surgeries.
  • Handle surgical instruments, manage patient positioning, and ensure the sterile field is maintained throughout the procedure.
  • Hospital Rounds:
  • Perform daily rounds to assess and manage inpatients recovering from spine surgery.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
  • Documentation:
  • Accurately document all patient interactions, including evaluations, treatment plans, surgical procedures, and post-operative progress.
  • Maintain detailed, timely, and organized electronic health records (EHR) to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensing: Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and a valid state PA license.
  • Experience:
  • Prior experience in spine surgery or orthopedic surgery preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with surgical and non-surgical management of spine conditions is highly desirable.
  • New graduates with relevant clinical experience in musculoskeletal or surgical settings may be considered.
  • Skills:
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in musculoskeletal and spinal health.
  • Surgical assist experience, ideally in spinal procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and interact with patients and the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and order entry.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while providing compassionate care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $156,501.00 – $167,344.00 per year
