Day Shift – 7.5 Hours (United States of America)

Surgical-Intensive Care Physician Assistant (PA) provides direct patient care services for surgically critically ill complex patients in an intensive care setting in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Surgical ICU attending physicians. The PA performs physical exams, collects, and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, and provides direct patient care services. The PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.

Job Responsibility:

  • Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.
  • Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
  • Performs daily patient rounds.
  • Establishes plan of care with patient and clinical team
  • Utilizes interdisciplinary team and consultations when appropriate to collaborate develop and execute patient care plan to ensure comprehensive patient services
  • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
  • Interprets laboratory and test results.
  • Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts.
  • Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.
  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.

Requirements:

  • Graduate Degree from an accredited PA School required.

  • Licensure as a PA in New York State required. -Certification as a PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants ( NCCPA ) OR 5 years surgical PA experience is required.

  • Relevant experience practicing within Surgical and/or Critical Care setting

  • For graduates prior to 1986, completion of degree from non-accredited program is acceptable if certified through PANCE exam (Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination) required.

  • BLS & ACLS certificate required. Associated topics: assistant cvor , assistant psych, assistant surgery, assistant surgical, clinic, diagnostic, physician assistant, practice physician, urgent care, walk in.

Salary Range: $64.041 – $80.49 / hourly (Commensurate with Experience)
