FULL-TIME PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
ABOUT US Dearborn and Associates Institute for Joint Restoration and Research is a nationally recognized orthopaedic surgical practice with clinical offices in Menlo Park and Fremont, California.
ABOUT THIS POSITION As a licensed Physician Assistant (PA), you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside Dr. Costouros who is a national and international leader in the comprehensive treatment of shoulder disorders with 20+ years of clinical experience. Common conditions treated include rotator cuff disease, arthritis of the shoulder, sports injuries, labral pathology, and fractures of the proximal humerus and clavicle. The PA will have the opportunity to participate in research opportunities and FDA clinical trials using state-of-the-art implants and techniques including robotics for the first time in the shoulder and mixed reality precision surgical tools. This is a seasoned shoulder practice that is focused on providing exceptional, personalized care with superior outcomes and quality that differentiates it from the larger healthcare systems in the area.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic complaints of the shoulder
- Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients
- Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies
- Administer, order, and/or prescribe medications
- Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including joint aspirations and injections
- Order physical therapy, occupational therapy and radiology examinations
- Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency including joint injections
- Obtain informed consent
- Recognize situations which require the immediate attention of a physician
- Facilitate the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services
- Facilitate collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources
- Provide and coordinate patient teaching and counseling
- Assist with surgery in the ambulatory surgery center and hospital setting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
- Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of California
- Physician Assistant Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- An individual Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license issued by the United States DEA for Schedule II-V controlled substances
- Clinical and surgical experience including proficiency with wound closure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Clinical and surgical experience, including proficiency in open and arthroscopic shoulder surgery
- Demonstrated competency using EPIC electronic medical records systems
