Job OverviewWe are actively seeking an experienced and compassionate Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic mental health team in California. In this specialized role, you will deliver innovative psychiatric care and behavioral health treatment to a diverse patient base—with a special focus on homeless individuals suffering from Serious Mental Illnesses (SMI) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD). As a top-performing PA in Psychiatry, your expertise in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration will be key to transforming the lives of vulnerable and underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mental Health Assessment:

Conduct in-depth psychiatric evaluations for homeless individuals, accurately diagnosing SMI and SUD while developing targeted treatment pathways.

  • Customized Treatment Plans:

Create and implement individualized, evidence-based care plans that integrate medication management, cognitive behavioral therapy, and holistic interventions to address complex psychiatric conditions.

  • Patient & Family Education:

Deliver clear and empathetic education on mental health conditions, treatment options, and preventive strategies—ensuring that patients and their families understand and effectively manage their care.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

Work closely with family medicine physician, RNs, social workers, and community health teams to coordinate integrated care, enhancing outcomes for clients experiencing homelessness, SMI, and SUD.

  • Documentation:

Maintain precise, up-to-date patient records and detailed documentation of all interactions in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Continuous Professional Growth:

Stay current with advancements in psychiatric care, emerging mental health research, and evolving treatment methodologies—particularly those addressing the unique challenges within underserved communities.

Essential Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid California PA License:

A current California Physician Assistant license is required.

  • PANCE Certification:

Must have successfully completed the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) and maintain active certification.

  • DEA Registration:

Eligibility for registration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is necessary for prescribing controlled substances as per state and federal protocols.

  • Demonstrated expertise in psychiatric care with extensive clinical knowledge in assessing and treating SMI and SUD.
  • Proven ability in designing and implementing individualized treatment plans in demanding, high-pressure environments.
