Opportunity

We are looking for a full time Physician Assistant for a remote site location in North Slope, AK to work on a rotational 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off schedule (12 hour shifts).

This position is based in rural Alaska providing medical support on an oil site. The provider will be in a remote/ isolated location providing urgent/ emergent care to injured/ ill workforce as well as occupational medical care to on-site employees. The number of employees varies considerably due to construction stages, drilling operations, maintenance and operations. The offsite physician back-up support is in Anchorage.

The employee is responsible for travel to/from home state to Anchorage, Alaska. Employer provides transportation from Anchorage, AK to work site. While on site, employees are provided with a private room and jack/jill bathrooms as well as meals.

Essential Job Functions

Duties include primary healthcare, emergency medical response, first aid training and promotion of lifestyle issues including fitness and healthy eating. In addition, this role supports client specific occupational health services such as performing audiograms, pulmonary function tests, respirator mask fit tests, regulated and non-regulated drug and alcohol testing. The successful candidate will also provide support with health and hygiene inspections and advising on other safety issues, in addition to general administration and computer based reporting.

Qualifications

  • Current Alaska State License / Certification
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • 3-5 years remote experience or emergency medicine experience
  • ATLS
  • CAOCH, an asset
  • NIOSH, an asset
  • Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited PA training program
  • Arctic work experience beneficial
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Key Responsibilities

  • Responds to emergency situations. This includes routine minor illness, medical emergencies, and trauma. Builds volunteer medical response teams. Directs triage, patient transport, and medical supervision at mass casualty incidents. Interfaces with other response team sections. Maintains readiness of emergency equipment and supplies.
  • Determines the need for emergency air evacuation of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical centers in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries of the workforce according to collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians. Conducts laboratory and electro-cardiograph diagnostic procedures as required.

  • Refers patients to appropriate consulting physicians within Alaska when required.
  • Prescribes and dispenses appropriate pharmaceuticals including controlled substances as approved by the supervising physician, within the scope of the collaborative agreement and in accordance with DEA regulations.
  • Leads weekly training sessions of the Medical Emergency Response Team.
  • Maintains medical records according to company policies and expected standards of medical practice. This includes but is not limited to injury reporting, completion/review of medical forms, and maintenance of statistical logs.

Contingencies

Offer contingent upon ability to pass pre-employment drug testing (federal panel), physical exam, fitness for duty assessment for remote work, background check and motor vehicle report.
