Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Hospitalist Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our LACENTA team. The Hospitalist PA will work alongside our team of otolaryngologists to provide high-quality care for patients in both a clinic and hospital setting. This role involves assisting in surgical procedures, conducting daily rounds, and coordinating patient management with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. The ideal candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and a commitment to patient care.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Clinic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Hospital Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with surgical procedures
  • Conducts daily hospital rounds with daily updates within our rounding spreadsheet
  • Writes orders and progress notes within the hospitals EMR
  • Performs all new consult history and physical exams
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests
  • Coordinates with other specialties for appropriate patient management
  • Formulates and implements treatment and therapeutic plans
  • Handles discharge planning with hospitalist
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are reflective of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Valid Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state.
  • Board certification (or eligibility) from the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
  • Previous experience in Otolaryngology, hospitalist care, or inpatient care is preferred.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and ability to assist in Otolaryngology-specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Proficiency in using EMR systems for documentation, orders, and patient management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced hospital environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a focus on high-quality care delivery.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time position with variable shifts.
  • Works in both clinic and hospital settings, with daily patient interactions and collaboration with multidisciplinary medical teams.
  • Fast-paced environment with a focus on providing optimal care for Otolaryngology patients.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Individual will be required to:

  • Sit for long periods at a time.
  • Use hands and fingers in repetitive motions, daily.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 20 lbs. periodically.
  • Travel to clinic locations or sites as needed.
