JOB PURPOSE
This position will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with cancer and blood disorders. Working in collaboration with physicians, this position will assess, diagnose, and manage patients throughout the continuum of care. This role involves clinical decision-making, treatment planning, patient education, and coordination of care in a fast-paced oncology and hematology setting.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking, physical examinations, and interpretations of diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions related to hematology and oncology, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy-related complications.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with physicians, ensuring continuity of care.
- Prescribe medications, including chemotherapy and supportive care drugs, in accordance with state regulations and institutional policies.
- Monitor patients undergoing treatment for adverse reactions, toxicities, and disease progression, making necessary modifications to treatment plans.
- Perform in-office procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, intrathecal chemotherapy administration, or central line management (if applicable and trained).
- Provide palliative and supportive care to enhance patients’ quality of life.
Patient Education & Coordination of Care
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, side effects, and symptom management.
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, nurses, social workers, and other specialists.
- Assist with referrals to external providers and services as needed.
- Ensure documentation is completed accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Maintain compliance with all clinic protocols, HIPAA regulations, and applicable healthcare laws.
- Participate in clinical trials, research initiatives, or quality improvement projects as needed.
- Stay current on advancements in oncology and hematology to provide evidence-based care.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Certification
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Advanced Practice Nursing (MSN, DNP)
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license in California
- Board certification as a PA (NCCPA) or NP (AANP, ANCC) required
- DEA registration and ability to prescribe controlled substances
- BLS and ACLS certification required
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in oncology, hematology, or internal medicine preferred
- Experience in chemotherapy management, supportive care, and symptom management is highly desirable
- Knowledge of EMR systems and strong documentation skills

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Full-time position with standard clinic hours; occasional after-hours or on-call duties may be required
- Work is performed in an outpatient clinic setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous medications
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
- Must be able to lift and move patients or medical supplies as needed
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary
DIRECT REPORTS
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but collaborates closely with medical assistants, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure optimal patient care.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $140,000.00 – $170,000.00 per year
