Job Description Summary:

The CV Physician’s Assistant coordinates the care of adult CV surgery patients as related to pre- and post-operative cardiovascular surgery. This care includes evaluation, education, treatment and follow-up using an organized multidisciplinary team approach to provide continuity of care throughout the continuum. The incumbent also participates in clinical effectiveness/research studies, support clinical staff education/professional development and community outreach activities. Population served includes adults, adolescents, and geriatrics. The CV Physician’s Assistant has primary contacts with patients/families, the CV Medical Director, Chief of Cardiology, and Medical Director, as well as referring physicians and their office staff, Nursing, Clinical Laboratory, Noninvasive Cardiology, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Electrophysiology Laboratory, Medical Records, Business Services and other hospital departments and the community at large.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:
EDUCATION Master’s degree in Nursing with current CA licensure and certification as an acute care nurse practitioner (ANCC) with possession of, or eligible for, a furnishing number to dispense. EXPERIENCE Knowledge of current cardiac medical practice as it relates to CV surgery and Cardiology and Electrophysiology; knowledge of adult educational planning, implementation and evaluation. Demonstrated competency in clinical practice with a minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible nursing experience. LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS Nurse Practitioner Required at hire Basic Life Support Required within 365 days of hire Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire PREREQUISITE SKILLS Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary. Clinical research skills, basic computer skills (access, enter and retrieve data; Word, and Excel skills preferred). Must be able to work with autonomy, adaptability, flexibility and maintain composure during pressures and adverse conditions and work as an effective team member in a collaborative role with other disciplines.
