Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Functions as a member of the surgical team by providing direct and indirect patient care to patients undergoing procedures.
- Prepares patients for surgery, review medical history and labs, mark the correct surgical site, position the patient, help with skin preparation.
- Assists team members in room set up and turnover, cleaning and restocking of equipment as required
- Provides post-operative surgical care to patients on an as necessary basis i.e., evaluates patient’s physical condition to ensure no secondary complications have occurred due to surgery, removes sutures, drains and/or staples. Provides specific patient care as needed in accordance with established policies and protocols.
- Participates in the development of new processes and procedures including selection of new and/or replacement equipment, learning and training with new software/instrumentation, and identification of optimal usage
- Acts as First Assistant or Second Assistant to surgeon during surgical procedures. Performs complex surgical techniques as needed and as directed by physician.
- Perform all other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Completion of a surgical residency preferred but not required.
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience.
- License/Registration/Certification:
- License to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of California, including maintaining board certification.
- DEA license.
- Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
