We are currently looking for a skilled and compassionate Wound Care Specialist (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team.
Job Overview
As a Wound Care Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing, managing, and treating various wound types to promote healing and improve patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have expertise in wound care management, advanced wound healing techniques, and patient education. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesWound Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of wounds, assessing size, depth, location, and surrounding tissue conditions.
- Identify wound etiology and create appropriate treatment plans.
Wound Management & Treatment:
- Develop and implement individualized wound treatment plans, including:
- Debridement (sharp, enzymatic, autolytic, or mechanical).
- Topical wound therapies and advanced dressing techniques.
- Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and other innovative wound treatments.
- Monitor wound healing progress and adjust treatments as needed.
Dressing and Bandaging:
- Select and apply appropriate wound dressings and bandages.
- Ensure adherence to best practices for optimal healing and infection prevention.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families on wound care principles, infection prevention, and self-care techniques.
- Provide instructions on proper dressing changes and wound hygiene at home.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Communicate patient progress and treatment updates to the care team.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of wound assessments, treatments, and progress notes.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, HIPAA, and infection control protocols.
Infection Control & Safety:
- Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent wound infections and cross-contamination.
- Promote a safe care environment for both patients and staff.
Types of Wounds You Will Manage:
- Pressure Injuries (Bedsores) – Prevention and treatment in patients with limited mobility.
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers – Assess and manage diabetic wounds to prevent complications.
- Surgical Wounds – Ensure proper healing and address wound-related complications.
- Chronic Wounds – Treat wounds that fail to heal within the expected timeframe.
- Ostomies & Skin Conditions – Provide specialized care for patients with ostomies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
✅ Education & Licensure:
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with active licensure in [CA].
- Certification in Advanced Wound Care (preferred but not required), such as:
- Wound Care Certification (WCC)
- Certified Wound Specialist (CWS)
- Ostomy and Wound Management Certification
✅ Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience in wound care (hospital, clinic, home health, or long-term care settings).
- Strong knowledge of wound healing processes, advanced wound management, and treatment options.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) documentation.
