Job Description: Physician Assistant

Job Title: Physician Assistant

Job Classification: Exempt

Immediate Supervisor Title: Physician Practice Manager/Physician

Job Supervisory Responsibilities: n/a

General Summary: Under a collaborative agreement with a physician, provides patient care and education to assigned caseload of patients in accordance with established midwifery practice guidelines.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.

2. Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.

3. Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

4. Provide physician assistant services to patients as directed by the physician’s patient care plan and supervised by the physician

5. Ensure completion of all required documentation of patient care activities in accordance with TPR policy.

6. Fulfill all duties assigned by physician

7. Reports to the attending physician of any injuries or adverse reactions during or after treatment

8. Participates in patient review conferences and staffing

9. Assists the physician as follows, but not limited to Utilization Review, Quality Assurance, Program Evaluation, Infection Control, Safety Committee activities

10. Adhere to the established policies and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources Orders and interprets the results of laboratory tests as part of the physical examination and health management.

11. Perform and oversee testing and other appropriate procedures.

12. Conducts health teaching and counseling during the physical exam, as appropriate, enabling the client to make informed choices about health and treatment options.

13. Provides consultative direction as needed for nursing, laboratory and clinic assistant staff.

14. Orders medications.

15. Other duties as assigned

Education: Graduate of an approved and accredited Physician Assistant master’s program.

Certification: Physician Assistant license to practice in the state. CPR Certified. DEA registration with state.

Experience: Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant

Work Environment: Position is in a well-lit office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves standing, bending, crouching or stooping approximately 50 percent of the day, walking or sitting the remainder, using computers and telephones. Ability to push, pull or lift objects greater than 50 pounds. Ability to drive a car. Tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory senses intact. Must be able to write legibly. Manual dexterity and strength to perform medical procedures.
