Physician Assistant – Ambulatory Surgery Center (First Assist Preferred)

Job Summary
The Physician Assistant provides direct patient care—including physical diagnosis, therapeutic management, and peri-operative services—in collaboration with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing, and clinical staff. The role spans the pre-operative clinic, operating room, and post-operative follow-up, ensuring a seamless, patient-centered continuum of care.
Essential Responsibilities
Comprehensive Patient Evaluation
- Conduct detailed histories and physicals; formulate and document evidence-based care plans.
- Order, interpret, and act on laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Intra-Operative Support (First Assist Highly Desirable)
- Serve as first assist in the OR; anticipate surgeon needs, maintain sterile technique, and facilitate optimal surgical flow.
Leadership & Clinical Resource
- Educate and mentor nurses, medical assistants, and ancillary staff; foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Guide daily clinic operations, uphold clinical standards, and ensure timely, efficient patient throughput.
Care Coordination & Consultation
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care to deliver safe, effective, and efficient treatment plans.
- Collaborate with surgeons on complex diagnoses and treatment pathways.
Prescriptive & Procedural Authority
- Prescribe medications, write treatment orders, and perform approved procedures. Respond promptly to emergent or rapidly changing patient conditions.
Professional Documentation & Compliance
- Chart all encounters clearly, accurately, and in a timely fashion in the EMR.
- Maintain active professional licensure, DEA registration, BLS/ACLS certifications, and engage in ongoing continuing medical education.
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the State of practice.
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification in good standing.
- 3–5 years of relevant post-graduate experience, ideally including surgical or peri-operative care.
- Active DEA registration with prescriptive authority.
- American Heart Association BLS & ACLS certifications.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office; comfort with web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an ambulatory surgical center, cosmetic plastic surgery, or oral/maxillofacial/dental implant setting.
- Formal first-assist training and demonstrated competency in the operating room.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Core hours: Monday–Friday.
- Occasional off-hour, weekend, and/or on-call coverage as patient schedules require.
