Physician Assistant – Allergy & Immunology
Position Summary
The Physician Assistant will work under the supervision of a board-certified allergist/immunologist to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with allergic and immunologic conditions. The PA will provide direct patient care, perform office-based procedures, and assist with patient education and follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Obtain patient histories and perform physical examinations
- Diagnose and manage common allergy and immune conditions, including but not limited to:
- Allergic rhinitis
- Asthma
- Food allergies
- Eczema
- Urticaria (hives)
- Immune deficiency/inborn errors of immunity
- Hereditary angioedema
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician
- Prescribe medications in accordance with California law and clinic guidelines
- Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests (e.g., skin testing, spirometry, lab studies)
- Monitor patient progress and adjust therapies as appropriate
- Support clinic workflow and scheduling efficiency
Procedures
- Perform and/or assist with:
- Skin prick and intradermal allergy testing
- Spirometry and pulmonary function testing
- Food and medication challenges (under supervision)
- Allergy immunotherapy (shot and/or oral immunotherapy management)
- Allergy patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis
- Recognize and respond to allergic reactions and emergencies according to clinic protocol
Patient Education
- Educate patients and families on allergy management, medications, and avoidance strategies
- Provide instruction on inhaler technique, epinephrine auto-injector use, and action plans
Documentation & Coordination
- Accurately document visits in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Coordinate care with nursing staff, physicians, and external providers
- Review labs, imaging, and test results
Training & Mentorship
- Structured onboarding and orientation
- Direct physician supervision with gradual increase in autonomy
- Ongoing mentorship, case review, and educational support
- Opportunities to attend allergy-focused CME and training sessions
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Current PA license (or eligibility) in California
- NCCPA certification
- BLS certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
- Experience in allergy, immunology, pediatrics, pulmonary medicine preferred but not mandatory
- Interest in long-term outpatient patient management
Work Environment & Schedule
- Outpatient clinic setting in 2 clinics in Ventura County (Thousand Oaks and Camarillo)
- No inpatient responsibilities
- Weekday hours

Pay: $60.00 – $90.00 per hour
