Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including physical examinations, vital signs, and medical history reviews to determine neurological conditions and treatment needs.
- Assist neurosurgeons during surgical procedures such as spinal taps, craniotomies, and catheterizations, ensuring aseptic techniques and optimal patient safety.
- Manage acute pain and critical care cases within the neurosurgical ICU, utilizing ventilator management skills and airway management protocols.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations using medical imaging reports, interpret laboratory results including ICD-10 coding for diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Administer medications, injections (including botulinum toxin treatments), and perform suturing with precision while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, post-operative care, and follow-up appointments utilizing EMR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate data collection and medical records management.
- Engage in clinical research and clinical trials related to neurosurgical innovations; contribute to data collection efforts aimed at advancing patient care standards.
Qualifications
- Valid Physician Assistant license with current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Demonstrated experience in neurosurgery or critical care settings; hospital experience preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of neuroanatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques relevant to neurosurgical practice.
- Experience with airway management, ventilator support, invasive procedures like spinal taps or catheterizations is advantageous.
- Ability to perform physical examinations accurately and conduct patient assessments efficiently in high-pressure environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers or emergency rooms.
- Excellent communication skills for triage, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration; commitment to patient-centered care aligned with HIPAA standards. Pay: $180,000.00 – $190,000.00 per year
